  rev. 1.11 1 august 17, 2016 rev. 1.00 pb august 17, 2016 HT7L5600 primary side regulation off line led driver with active pfc features ? small outline sot23-6 package ? primary-side current sensing and regulation with - out an opto-coupler ? wide ac i nput range C from 85vac to 265vac ? high power factor of >0.9 without additional circuitry ? accurate c onstant current (< 3%) ? low start-up c urrent wh ich reduce s p ower d issipation ? full protection functions for enhanced safety: ? gate driver o utput v oltage clamp ? vcc over voltage protection C vcc ovp ? vcc under-voltage lockout with hysteresis C vcc uvlo ? output led s tring o ver c urrent protection ? output led s tring short / open p rotection ? on-chip over temperature protection C otp applications ? general illumination ? e26/27, t5/t8 led lamp ? other led lighting applications general description the HT7L5600 is a single-stage, isolated, primary - side of fline le d li ghting control ler that achi eves a high power factor . power control is implemented by controlling an external m osfet and accurate led constant c urrent regulati on from t he p rimary - side information. this can signifcantly simplify the led lighting system design by eliminating the secondary - side feedback components and the normally required opto- coupler. the extremely low start-up current and quiescent c urrent re duces t he t otal powe r c onsump - tion to provide a high effciency solution for lighting applications. the HT7L5600 provides several protection functions , which include vcc under v oltage lockout (uvlo), over current protection (ocp) , output led string open protection , output led string short protection , vcc over v oltage protection (ovp) and leading- edge blanking ( leb ) for current sensing. additionally and to ensure system reliability , the device includes a fully integrated thermal protection function. t o protect the external power mosfet from being damaged by a n over voltage , the d evice dr v p in v oltage i s clamped to about 1 6v . the high level of functional integra tion minimi ses the external component count giving major advantages in terms of cost and circuit board area. t he device is supplied in a sot23-6 package. application circuit s acin v out+ v out- ht 7l 5600 comp gnd cs zcd vcc drv

rev. 1.11 6 august 17, 2016 HT7L5600 figure 9. effciency vs. ac voltage figure 10.power factor(pf) vs. ac voltage functional description the h t7l 5600 is a single - stage primary-side offine led controller designed for isolated led lighting applications. the device can achieve high p ower factor val ues and l ow thd values without resorti ng to additional c ircuit s a nd c an a lso ge nerate hi gh accuracy l ed d rive c urrents wi th v ery f ew e xternal components. start-up current a very low start-up current , i start , allows users to select a lar ger start-up resistor value which reduce s power dissipation. power factor correction high powe r fa ctor i s a chieved by c onstant on-t ime operation. to i mplement c onstant o n-time c ontrol , a 0.47 f capacitor is placed betw een t he com p pin and ground . constant current control the HT7L5600 accurately regulates the led current by sensing the primary-side information. the led current can be set as follow s: s p cs fb out n n r v i 2 1 where n p is the primary winding and n s is the secondary winding; v fb (=300mv) is the internal voltage re ference a nd r cs i s t he e xternal c urrent sensing resistor. vcc under voltage lockout C uvlo the device has an integrated u vlo function w hich includes 10v of hysteresis. the pwm controller will switch on when the vcc voltage exceeds 18v . it will switch o ff wh en t he vcc voltage i s l ess t han 7.5 v. the h ysteresis characteris tics will ensure that the device can be powered by an input capacitor during start-up. w hen t he out put vol tage i ncreases t o a c er - tain value after start -up , vcc will be char ged by an output through an auxiliary winding. boundary conduction mode C bcm the p ower mosfet is turned on by inductor current zero-crossing detection. the current zero-crossing can be detected by a zcd voltage . when the inductor current is at t he zero c rossing poi nt , the voltage on t he z cd pin will drop rapidly . the HT7L5600 then detects the fa lling e dge a nd t urns on t he powe r mosfe t. the b oundary conduction mode provides l ow turn-on switching losses and high conversion effciency. leading-edge blanking C leb on cs at each turn on time of the external power mosfet , a spike will inevitably be generated at the sense resistor . to prevent fault y t rigger ing , a 400ns l eading-edge blank t ime will b e generated . dur ing t his b lanking period, t he c urrent-limit c omparator i s di sabled a nd will therefore not be able to switch off the gate driver. gate driver c lamp the dr v p in i s c onnected t o the gate of e xternal mosfet to switch i t on a nd of f . to prot ect t he external power mosfet from being over - stressed, the gate driver output is clamped to 1 6v .
rev. 1.11 7 august 17, 2016 HT7L5600 over voltage protection C ovp on vcc in order to prevent pwm controller damage, the device i ncludes an ovp funct ion for vcc. should t he vcc voltage exceed the ovp threshold voltage of 24 v, the pwm controller will cease operat ion immediately . when the vcc voltage falls below the uvlo of f level, the controller will reset. led open protection C zcd ovp the zcd pin voltage is set by a resistor divider r top (top resistor), r bot (bottom resistor) and an auxiliary winding due to the coupling polarity between the auxiliary winding and the secondary winding of the transformer. o nce t he z cd vol tage e xceeds 3.2v after a bl anking t ime a bout 1us t o a llow t he l eakage inductance ringing to be fully damped, zcd ovp is triggered . the device w ill then stop s witching but it can be reset by re-starting the voltage on the vcc pin. t he ovp voltage can be adjusted by the equation: d a s bot top ovpout v n n r r v ++= )1(2.3 _ where n s is the secondary winding, n a is the auxiliary winding and v d is the forward bias voltage of the secondary diode. over current protection C ocp the ht 7l 5600 i ncludes a c s p in o ver c urrent p rotection function. an internal circuit detects the current level and should the current be lar ger than the o ver c urrent p rotection threshold level , the gate output will then be fxed to a low level. led short protection C scp the output voltage drops when a number of leds in a string are shorted resulting in a voltage drop on vcc. once vcc falls below 7.5 v, the device will cease operation . u nder such s ituation s , the s tart-up operation will rechar ge the vcc pin through the start- up resistor and the device will enter the uvlo hiccup mode. thermal protection a thermal protection feature is included to protect the device from excessive heat damage. when the junction temperature exceeds a threshold of 150c, the thermal protection function will t urn o ff t he dr v t erminal immediately. when the vcc decreases below the uvlo off level, the controller will reset.
